When I want to buy bedroom furniture, I always want to save money by getting it as cheaply as possible. For me, this needs a good plan and a lot of patience and although a number of shoppers imagine bedroom furniture to be expensive, that need not be the case.
Here are a few ideas on getting good value while furniture shopping.
1. I do not get too many pieces of furniture up front. Just because I want to change to white bedroom furniture does not mean you need all the items to be changed to white right away for example.
I tend to keep the pieces that are in good condition and start simply by getting some white bedding. Then as the others get worn out I can replace them then.
2. When I want to implement some new bedroom theme ideas, I check out any auctions, either online, in the papers or in my neighborhood and see if there is any used bedroom furniture available. Sometimes, for unfortunate reasons, people have to sell almost new pieces at a very cheap price.
A lot of people are wary about buying used furniture so I can often save a massive amount. I also have a friend with a truck who can pick it up and deliver it to me for virtually nothing which helps.
3. In general furniture is an item which has a very big mark up in the stores so I make sure I check out when the sales are on. There could be different items each week so I make sure I look out for the particular room’s sale that I want.
4. Because there is such a mark up it is also possible to haggle on the price just like I do when I get a new house or car.
Negotiating like this does not come natural to most people but if you can master the art you can make hundreds of dollars in no time at all. It has been a good return on my time I must say. Just give it a try a few times, you never know what you could get away with if the salesman who is on commission needs an extra sale for the day.
5. Furniture that arrives flat packed and needs to be assembled is usually a cheaper option. I have had some nasty moments but it all does fit together eventually. As an example, IKEA bedroom furniture normally arrives like this. The reason that it is cheaper is that you have to spend the time putting it together and they do not have to pay staff to do it. It is also easier for them to transport around.
So, as you can see, when you next want a white bedroom and need to buy bedroom furniture it does not have to cost the earth if you put a little effort into it.
